First Lady

LADY DEBORAH L. MITCHELL

Lady Deborah Mitchell, better known as, Sister Debbie, was born to the late Mr. Sampson & Mrs. Mildred Lark, on December 3, 1955 in Savannah, GA. She is the fourth daughter. Sister Debbie was baptized in Jesus Name and filled with the Holy Ghost at the age of 18.

After graduating from high school in 1974, she came to Atlanta to continue her education at Dekalb Community College now known as Georgia Perimeter College. Sister Debbie is a highly respected woman of God in her church, community and working environment. She is married to District Elder Dennis Mitchell, Sr. who affectionately calls her Sister Honey! They were united in holy matrimony on June 18, 1977, and to this union two sons were born, Dennis Jr. and Darius. She and her husband found it interesting when they met that both of their moms names were Mildred and they both had nine children.

Lady Mitchell’s first job was cleaning the church restrooms. Later, she was appointed by the former pastor, the late Suffragan Bishop Mitchell to work as president of the Junior Missionary Auxiliary in 1980. She served as director of the GCT Children’s Church Ministry for many years. God has gifted Lady Debbie in many areas; in particular, she is gifted in teaching children scriptures in song, gifted in writing and directing inspirational drama productions and gifted in writing poetry.

Over the years, she served as a deacon’s wife and later became president of the Greater Christ Temple Ministers’ Wives Auxiliary where she served from 1986-2011. The Lord led Pastor WB Mitchell to combine the three Auxiliaries: Missionaries, Mothers’ Board, and Ministers’ Wives. It was Sister Debbie who named it the M & Ms. She served faithfully in this auxiliary for many years before passing the torch. Additionally, Sister Mitchell served as the GA State Council Ministers’ Wives & Ministers’ Widow Alliance treasurer, assistant treasurer, secretary, assistant secretary, and vice president. Currently, she serves as the GSCMWW State District President.

She can be found in the recent publication of the IMWMWA Light Magazine. She was given a certificate Award of Excellence from Dr. Ruth Ann Tyson, president of the International Ministers’ Wives & Ministers’ Widows Auxiliary for her leadership qualities.

Lady Debbie works closely & faithfully beside her husband in the ministry. We are so proud of our First Lady for she is also an anointed speaker and teacher. She recently organized the group, Sisters in Christ (SIC).

Her favorite song is “Lord Send Me, I’ll Go!”
